About John Cheetham

John E. Cheetham, Professor Emeritus of
Music Theory and Composition at the
University of Missouri-Columbia, was born
in Taos, New Mexico in 1939.  He received
his Bachelor and Masters degrees from the
University of New Mexico in 1962 and 1965,
and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition
from the University of Washington in 1969.

For concert band:
  • Overture "Silver Jubilee" - Commemorates the 25th
    anniversary of the Columbia, MO Community Band
    (Dedicated to Keith House)

For trumpet(s):
  • Sonata for Trumpet & Marimba.  Three movement
    sonata written for Andrew Cheetham.
  • Fanfare Antigua for 6 Bb trumpets.  Commissioned by
    Lindenwood University for 2008 ITG conference.

For tubas and euphoniums:
  • Heroes for high tuba, low tuba & marimba.  
    Commissioned by David Kutz and Anne Jelle Visser for
    2007 Ottawa Chamber Music Festival.
  • Bassa Nobile for 4 euphoniums and 4 tubas.  
    Commissioned by Winston Morris for the 40th
    anniversary of TTTE.

Brass Choir:
  • Eclectix for brass choir and percussion.  Large 1
    movement, three section work heavily reliant on jazz
    figures.  Commissioned by the Hora Decima Brass
    Ensemble.
