SATB (A cappella)
“O Come Emmanuel.” The Latin plainsong “Veni, Veni Emmanuel” can be traced back to the 9th century. The English translation used here is by the Reverend John M. Neale (1818-1866) and was first published in 1854. “Emmanuel” (or “Immanuel”) refers to the Messiah as prophesied in the Old Testament. An interesting feature of this carol is its basis in the Dorian Mode (Mode I).
